Folks,

I believe, here in Orafaq, everyone posting/reading/participating learns something NEW everyday. Whenever I learn something new about Oracle, it gives me so much pleasure. I feel like I got a new mission to learn and do more experiment on it. Well, it motivates me like anything. I share it with my friends/colleagues and have lots of discussion. And then I realize nothing could have been better for that day.

If anybody feels they got something new to learn in Orafaq, and if you have spare time, then do share it.

Perhaps because the use of shared server (waiting in queue) instead of dedicated server? Found this reference: high virtual circuit waits after upgrade. Mentions MOSC Note 1225943.1 titled High virtual circuit waits after upgrade

Well, If I am not wrong, and if other folks agree with me, not everything can be trusted what Burleson proves. You might end up believing in incorrect ways to achieve the output. Sometimes, even the output is faked out.

Burleson is correct about 50% of the time; the challenge being knowing which 50% is false.

That there seems to be a mechanism for 32bit OS/Oracle to use more than 4GB for SGA.

Only 2 websites I've been being interested to visit, there are TomKyte and Tanel Porder. Smile
Only 1 forum I've been being interested to visit, there is OraFaq. Smile

So, I've been being learnt so much from here, the most important thing is "Do not ask till you could not try any more by your self".

But, the worth important thing is "My English is still bad since near 7 years working as an DBA" Very Happy

Resolving issues with making connection of SQL Developer with Oracle DB when the versions are quite old(last century) SQL Developer version 1.2.1 is able to connect to 8.1.7 with limited functionality

you can turn off the listener log file by doing as below

LSNRCTL> SET LOG_STATUS OFF

I am not sure why this should ever be done; since you never know when the log file content might assist in debugging some future problem.

Trying to select from that view seems to generate a ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [__intel_new_memcpy()+52] [SIGSEGV] [ADDR:0x0] [PC:0x40CB644] [SI_KERNEL(general_protection)] [] in the alert log for me. Definitely something new that I learned. Laughing

Yes there are many bugs in this view (and other V$DIAG ones) which lead to these errors depending on the query but they are fixed from to time along the patchsets (and the errors don't appear when you directly query the underlying x$ tables).
They are undocumented and expected to be queried only by ADRCI tool.

Oh dear, Gareth, I shouldn't have posted that: it shows my age. That syntax for creating a user dates back to release 5 I think. Before we had proper roles and privileges.

Hats off to Solomon and Michel, you guys put up such rich information sometimes that it brings out something new for lot of folks...

Here is my take for today :

http://www.orafaq.com/forum/mv/msg/192388/612223/#msg_612223

I never thought of using the internal data type conversion as a tool to force and override Oracle for a weird requirement. Often saw the internal conversion only in tkprof output. Really learnt something new today.
