Hi,

I have one doubt in using export and import command.

Can we use SYS or SYSTEM user to take export and import like ( schema export, full db export,
table export etc.. ) if DB users does not have privilege to take export and import.Could you please clarify ?

If we cannot use SYS or SYSTEM user to take export and import , could you give me the reason why we cannot
use sys or system user to take export and import ?

Regards,
Jack

The DB SYS user should only be used to apply Oracle patches & version upgrades

with Oracle everything is forbidden; except that which has been explicitly granted, so you may need to issue GRANT as required

when all else fails Read The Fine Manual

You can use the SYSTEM user to export other users' schemas.

Gazzag & Swan,

Thank you for the answers.

I have few questions to clarify.

1.May i know why we cannot use SYS user to export other user's schemas ?
2.What would be the impact to database if we use SYS user to export other user's schemas?

Regards,
Jack

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/dba005.htm#ADMIN11042

"Create at least one additional administrative user and grant to that user an appropriate administrative role to use when performing daily administrative tasks. Do not use SYS and SYSTEM for these purposes."

They are Oracle proprietary, use your own accounts.

In addition, as I often say:

Quote:
- Never ever use SYS (or SYSDBA) but for maintenance purpose (startup, shutdown, backup, recover)
- SYS/SYSDBA is special
- SYS/SYSDBA is Oracle proprietary (try to open a SR/TAR starting with "i did that with SYS/SYSDBA" and you'll see the immediate answer)
- SYS/SYSDBA does not act like any other user
- When you use SYS/SYSDBA Oracle deactivates some code path and activates others
- Whatever you do with SYS/SYSDBA will neither validate nor invalidate the same thing with any other user.

NEVER EVER use SYS/SYSDBA for anything that can be done by another user.
Use SYS/SYSDBA ONLY for something that can't be done by someone else.

Regards
Michel
