Trying to setup the rac on the test setup with the help of VMWARE.

The ethernet card is not enabling :
it gives me the error :
SOme other host already uses this address

I tried to change the IP Address but of no use .
I am not able to ping this IP Address and ot able to obvtain hardware address with arp -an


please help

Use NAT / Bridge method & then try to change ip ( Make sure before change IP change hostname as well )

i have configured 2 ethernet card , both as bridged .

1. to confirm u want me to change the ip address and hostname as well
2. i m nt understanding what is the reason of this error
is it a bug with vmware?

Means, IP address already used by another machine

but actually it is not used by any machine .
there are only 2 machines setup on rac env and they are not using the same ip address s.
But still we are getting this error

For VMWARE questions, you are probably better served posting in a VMWARE forum, IMHO. Know also that Oracle RAC running on VMWARE is not something that Oracle supports in any way - that is pretty clearly spelled out in the Oracle certification matrix Wink. Oracle RAC running on Oracle VM is supported Wink. (no - I don't work for Oracle . . . ). The error message you are getting is fairly obviously caused by either a network configuration issue in VMWARE or you have another system on your network with the same IP. Good luck!

You can use bridged ethernet card but it is better to use cisco instead try using ifupeth0 if still not up then buy new card
